My great great grandfather Joseph Heapey came from Manchester. He was born around 1799, and I understand that he was a soldier at the battle of Waterloo. Family legend says he was a drummer boy. I have no idea what regiment he served with, and can only guess that it may have been a local one.
So can anyone suggest which regiment he may have joined and how I can find any records to support the above family beliefs?
Is anyone else researching the Heapey family? My father was a John Heapey, born in W Riding of Yorkshire. His father, another Joseph was born in Manchester in 1874, as was his grandfather John (Jack), born around 1836.
Hoping I find another Heapey somewhere.
